Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Grant

Homeowners heating their house with oil furnaces may be able to receive an up-front payment of up to $10,000 from Natural Resources Canada for switching from oil heating to energy-efficient heat pumps if their household income qualifies.

The amount approved will be provided in advance to any work completed and this can be combined with additional financial assistance from the Durham Deep Retrofit Rebate, Whitby Deep Retrofit Rebate, or Durham Heat Pump Rebate.

  1. You must be be installing an eligible air source or ground source heat pump.
  2. You will need to show proof of purchasing 500 litres of heating oil in the past 12 months.

The up to $10,000 will cover:

  • Purchase and installation of eligible heat pumps;
  • Necessary electrical and mechanical upgrades to the house;
  • Installation of outdoor piping loops for ground source heat pumps;
  • The safe removal of the oil tank;
  • Installation of a backup heating system as required;
  • Switching over other oil using household systems as necessary.
